Description pharmacological action:

Ferro-Folgamma comprehensive Antianemic preparation that contains ferrous iron in the form of simple salts of sulfate of iron, vitamin B12, folic and ascorbic acid, used for treatment of iron deficiency States. Iron is an important part of the human body. It is part of hemoglobin, myoglobin and other enzymes. Ascorbic acid improves iron absorption in the intestine. Vitamin B12 and folic acid are involved in the formation and maturation of red blood cells.

Active components of the drug ferro-Folgamma are special neutral shell, which ensures their absorption, mainly in the upper small intestine. The lack of local irritating action on the mucous membrane of the stomach, promotes good tolerability of the drug from the gastrointestinal tract.

Indications:

  • treatment of a combined iron-folate-B12-deficiency anemia caused by chronic blood loss (bleeding gastric, intestinal, bladder, hemorrhoids, Meno-, metrorrhagia), chronic alcoholism, infections, ingestion of anticonvulsant and oral contraceptive drugs
  • anemia during pregnancy and lactation
  • prevention of iron deficiency and folic acid in II and III trimestrah pregnancy, the postpartum period during breastfeeding.

Contraindications:

  • hypersensitivity
  • anaemia not related to iron deficiency (e.g. haemolytic anaemia or isolated megaloblastic anemia caused by B12 deficiency)
  • liver failure
  • excessive content of iron in the body (such as hemosiderosis)
  • disorder of mechanisms of iron utilization (e.g. lead anaemia, sideroahrestical anemia).

Side effects:

In some cases, allergic reactions, urticaria, eczematous phenomenon, anaphylactic shock, anaphylactoid reactions.

Drug interactions:

Organic acids, calcium salts, phosphates, phytin, cholestyramine and antacids containing aluminum, magnesium, calcium, disrupt the absorption of iron. Preparations containing pancreatic enzymes, can reduce the absorption of iron.

With simultaneous use of phenobarbital, carbamazepine, valproate, sulfasalazine, hormonal contraceptives, antagonists of folic acid, trimethoprim, and triamterene pyrimethamine reduces the bioavailability of folic acid.

Iron salts break the suction in the gastrointestinal tract of antibiotics tetracycline.
