Baytril - a drug for the treatment of dogs and cats with diseases of bacterial and mycoplasma etiology.

STRUCTURE

1 ml of the injection solution contains 25, 50 or 100 mg of enrofloxacin as the active substance and auxiliary components: potassium hydroxide, n-butanol, water for injection.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Enrofloxacin, which is part of the drug, belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones, has a wide spectrum of antibacterial and antimycoplasmic effects, suppresses the growth and development of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia, Hemophilus, salmonella, pasteurella, staphylococci, streptococci, Clostridium, Pseudomonas, bordetella, Campylobacter, corynebacteria, proteus, and mycoplasma. The mechanism of action of enrofloxacin is to inhibit the activity of the enzyme gyrase, which affects the replication of the DNA helix in the nucleus of a bacterial cell. With parenteral administration of the drug, enrofloxacin is well and quickly absorbed from the injection site and penetrates into all organs and tissues of the body. The maximum concentration of enrofloxacin in the blood is reached in 20 to 40 minutes, the therapeutic concentration is maintained for 24 hours after administration of the drug.

Baytril solution for injection according to the degree of exposure to the body is a moderately dangerous substance, in the recommended doses is well tolerated by animals, does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic and hepatotoxic effects. Enrofloxacin is excreted from the body mainly unchanged, partially metabolized into ciprofloxacin and excreted in the urine and feces.

INDICATIONS

It is prescribed to dogs and cats for therapeutic purposes in diseases of the respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary system, septicemia, colibacteriosis, salmonellosis, streptococcosis and other diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to fluoroquinolones, as well as in mixed and secondary infections in viral diseases.

APPLICATION

Baytril injection solution is administered to dogs and cats subcutaneously or intramuscularly at a dose of 0.2 ml per 1 kg of animal weight (5 mg of enrofloxacin per 1 kg of weight) once a day for 3 to 10 days. Due to the possible pain reaction, the drug should not be administered to the animal in one place in a volume exceeding 2.5 ml.

If there is no noticeable clinical improvement within 3 to 5 days, it is recommended to re-test for the sensitivity of microorganisms isolated from the sick animal to fluoroquinolones or replace Baytril with another antibacterial drug.

SIDE EFFECTS

In some cases, a short-term violation of the function of the gastrointestinal tract is possible. Redness may occur at the injection point, disappearing spontaneously.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Hypersensitivity to enrofloxacin and other quinolones. It is forbidden to prescribe to females during pregnancy and lactation, with significant disorders of the development of cartilage tissue, lesions of the nervous system, accompanied by convulsions, as well as with the release of microorganisms resistant to fluoroquinolones from a sick animal. Concomitant use of Baytril with levomycetin, macrolides, tetracyclines, theophylline and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is not allowed.

It is advisable not to apply to puppies and kittens until the end of their growth period.

STORAGE

Store in a dry, dark place out of the reach of children and animals at a temperature of 5°C to 25°C. Shelf life — 3 years. After opening the bottle, the drug can be used for 28 days.

They are produced in 100ml dark glass bottles, which are packed in cardboard boxes.
