Pharmacological action

Antiprotozoal drug with antibacterial effect.

Indications for use

Trichomoniasis, giardiasis, amoebiasis (including hepatic form and amoebic dysentery). Infections of various localization caused by anaerobic bacteria (infections of skin and soft tissue, pneumonia, empyema, lung abscess, acute ulcerative gingivitis).

Eradication of Helicobacter pylori (in the complex therapy with the drug bismuth and antibiotics).

The drug is used for prevention of postoperative infectious complications caused by anaerobes.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug or other derivative of 5-nitroimidazole, organic diseases of the Central nervous system, oppression bone marrow blood, the first trimester of pregnancy, lactation. Children up to age 12 years. 

Method of application and doses

Individual. Adults - 1.5-2 g 1 time/day, children (with the exception of the prevention of postoperative anaerobic infections) - 50-75 mg/kg 1 times/day. The duration of treatment is determined by clinical situation and may be 1-10 days.
