Pharmacological action:
Antiprotozoal agent. Active against Trichomonas, Giardia, Entamoeba histolytica, certain anaerobic microorganisms (Bacteroides, fuzobakterii, some strains of clostridia, anaerobic cocci).
Indications:
Trichomoniasis, amoebiasis: amoebic dysentery, extraintestinal amebiasis (including amebic liver abscess), giardiasis, prevention of infections caused by anaerobic bacteria, during operations on the colon and gynecology.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity, pregnancy (I trimester), lactation, diseases of the Central nervous system.
Side effects:
Headache, dizziness, impaired consciousness, tremor, rigidity, discoordination movements, cramps, sensory or mixed peripheral neuropathy, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
Overdose:
Symptoms: epileptiformnye convulsions, depression, peripheral neuritis. Treatment: symptomatic (diazepam - if spasms).
Method of application and dose:
Trichomoniasis: adults - 0.5 g 2 times a day for 5 days. Children in a single dose rate of 25 mg/kg With amoebic dysentery adults and children weighing over 35 kg - 1.5 g 1 times a day, with body weight over 60 kg - 2 g/day. Children weighing less than 35 kg - 40 mg/kg/day. The course is 3 days. For the treatment of other forms of amebiasis: adults and children over 12 years: 0.5 g orally, morning and evening for 5-10 days. Single dose for children aged 7-12 years - 0.375 g, 1-6 years - 0.25 g, up to 1 year - 0.125 g, the multiplicity of purposes - 2 times a day (morning and evening), duration of treatment is 5-10 days. Giardiasis: adults and children weighing over 35 kg - inside, on 1.5 g 1 times a day, children with body weight under 35 kg - 40 mg/kg/day. The duration of treatment is 1-2 days. Prevention of infections caused by anaerobic bacteria - 0.5-1 g before surgery, after surgery - 0.5 g 2 times a day for 3-5 days.
Special instructions:
In the treatment of trichomoniasis should be simultaneous treatment of sexual partners.
Interaction:
Enhances the effect of anticoagulants of the cumarin series, prolongs the muscle relaxant effect of vecuronium bromide. Compatible with ethanol (not inhibits acetyldihydrocodeinone) unlike. imidazole derivatives (metronidazole).
