Pharmacological action

Water for injections is the universal solvent, the basis not only for various transfusion preparations, but also in biological fluids and tissues (blood, lymph, plasma cells, etc.), necessary for regular metabolic processes.

In normal conditions water is excreted with urine, feces, sweat and breath. Loss of fluid through sweat, breathing and feces takes place independently of the introduction of the liquid. Maintenance of adequate hydration requires 30-45 ml/kg/ water in adults and in children, 45-100 ml/kg in infants - 100-165 ml/kg.

Water for injections is used to prepare infusion and injection solutions, providing optimum conditions for compatibility and efficiency of substrates and water.

Water for injections is hypotonic medium in relation to the tissues of the body, so in its pure form causes somewhat greater irritation than isotonic solutions or prepared on the basis of water for injection solution (for parenteral administration, eye drops, etc.). When administered into a vein of pure water for injection can occur hemolysis, however, the slow introduction of small quantities of practically does not render such action. So the water is safe for injection as a solvent of drugs (in accordance with the instructions for use), prepared with water for injection.

Means, the concentration of which should remain within certain limits, is diluted with water for injections only within the specified limits.

Water for injection can not be directly injected or introduced in the form of infusion due to the lack of substances with low osmotic pressure (the risk of hemolysis!).

Interaction

Incompatibility of medicinal products with water is practically nonexistent, as if the substance incompatible with water, it will be incompatible with the aqueous environment of the body.

When mixed with other medicinal products (infusion solutions, concentrates for preparation of infusions, injection solutions, powders, dry substances for preparation of injections), visual checking is necessary for compatibility (can take place himicheskaja or therapeutic incompatibility).
