Pharmacological action
Antimicrobial and Antiprotozoal drug.
Ornidazole is effective against Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia (Giardia intestinalis), and some anaerobic bacteria such as Bacteroides spp. and Clostridium spp. Fusobacterium spp., and anaerobic cocci: Peptostreptococcus spp. To Ornidazole is not sensitive aerobic microorganisms.
Indications for use
Trichomoniasis (genitourinary infections in women and men, caused by Trichomonas vaginalis); amebiasis (all of intestinal infections caused by Entamoeba histolytica, including amoebic dysentery, all extraintestinal forms of amoebiasis, especially amoebic liver abscess); giardiasis. Prevention of anaerobic infections during operations on the colon and gynecological interventions.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Ornidazole or to other nitroimidazole derivatives, components of the drug. Children up to age 3 years and body weight less than 20 lbs. the first trimester of pregnancy, the breastfeeding period. Organic diseases of the Central nervous system. Pathological changes of the blood and abnormalities of blood cells.
Method of application and doses
Ornidazole is inside after eating, squeezed enough water.
Trichomoniasis
Adults and children weighing over 35 kg: 1 tablet 2 times a day (morning and evening) for 5 days. To eliminate the possibility of re-infestation, the sexual partner should receive the same treatment. Daily dose for children with weighing 20-35 kg is 25 mg/kg of body weight and assigned to one reception for 5 days.
Amoebiasis
Treatment regimens: the three-day course of treatment of patients with amoebic dysentery and 5-10-day course of treatment in all forms of amoebiasis.
