The drug Espumisan® extra reduces the amount of gases in the gastrointestinal tract (GI). The active substance - Simethicone, has surface-active properties and the ability to reduce the surface tension at the interface of two liquid/gas media, which contributes to the fusion of gas bubbles and the destruction of foam in the intestine, so that the released gas is absorbed or excreted naturally under the influence of intestinal peristalsis. The use of simeticon in preparation for diagnostic studies of the abdominal cavity prevents the appearance of image defects caused by gas bubbles.

Pharmacokinetics

Simethicone is chemically inert, after ingestion is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and acts only in its lumen. It does not interact with microorganisms and enzymes and does not affect the digestive processes. It is excreted unchanged by the intestines.

Indications for use

• symptoms of excessive formation and accumulation of gases in the gastrointestinal tract (including flatulence, increased gas formation in the postoperative period),
• symptoms of excessive gas formation caused by functional dyspepsia,
• preparation for diagnostic examinations of the abdominal and pelvic organs (ultrasound, radiography, etc.).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, intestinal obstruction, hereditary fructose intolerance.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding

The drug Espumisan® extra can be used during pregnancy and during breastfeeding.

Dosage and administration

Inside. The contents of the bag are poured into the mouth, directly on the tongue. You do not need to wash down the granules with water (if necessary, you can wash them down with water).

The drug is taken before or after meals, if necessary-before bedtime.

The frequency of administration and duration of use depend on the severity of symptoms.

If necessary, the drug Espumisan® extra can be taken for a long time.For complaints related to excessive gas formation

Adults and children over 14 years of age: 1 sachet of Espumisan® extra before or after meals, if necessary, 1 sachet can be taken additionally before bedtime.

If necessary, the single dose can be increased to 2 sachets of Espumisan® extra.

The maximum daily dose is 6 sachets of Espumisan® extra, which corresponds to 750 mg of Simethicone.

Children from 6 to 14 years: 1 sachet of Espumisan® extra before or after meals, if necessary, 1 sachet can be taken additionally before bedtime.

The maximum daily dose is 3 sachets of Espumisan® extra, which corresponds to 375 mg of Simethicone. In preparation for radiography and ultrasound

Take 1 sachet of the drug Espumisan® extra 3 times a day after meals the day before the study and 1 sachet of the drug Espumisan® extra in the morning on the day of the study. Espumisan® extra is intended for use in adults and children over 6 years of age.

Children under 6 years of age should use the drug Espumisan® in the form of an emulsion.

Side effect

Side effects when using the drug Espumisan® extra were not observed.

It is possible to develop allergic reactions to the components of the drug.

Overdose

Overdose cases are not known.

Interaction with other medicines

There is no clinically significant interaction of Simethicone with other drugs.

If excessive gas formation persists for a long time, it is necessary to consult a doctor for a medical examination.

The drug Espumisan® extra contains sorbitol( sorbitol), so its use in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance is contraindicated.

Information for patients with diabetes: 1 packet contains 647, 90 mg of sorbitol, which corresponds to 0, 05 bread units (HE).

Effect of the drug on the ability to drive vehicles and other mechanisms

The drug Espumisan® extra does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and other mechanisms and to perform work that requires increased concentration.
