• Oftagel (Carbomer) 0.25% 10g eye gel

Expiration date: 04/2026

The composition and form of issue:

Eye gel. 1 gcontains:

Carbomer 974P 2.5 mg

excipients: benzalkonium chloride sorbitol lysine monohydrate, sodium acetate polyvinyl alcohol water for injections

in vials of 10 g in a box 1 PC.

Description pharmaceutical form:

Colourless or slightly opalescent gel.

Pharmacological action:

It has a good moisturizing effect, long-term contact with the cornea.

Pharmacokinetics:

Due to the significant molecular weight and the presence of cross-linking in the structure of carbomer unlikely its penetration into the tissues of the eyeball and accumulation in them. Not absorbed into the blood from the tear ducts and the gastrointestinal tract.

Description pharmacological action:

The polymer chain of carboxyquinolone (polyacrylate) interact with the mucin layer at the corneal epithelium. Non-ionized carboxylic acid residues in the polymer form hydrogen bonds with molecules of mucin. Carbomer also contains more ionized areas that hold water around the molecules due to electrostatic forces. In addition bioadhesive, increases the viscosity of the tears, forming a protective moisturising film on the surface of the cornea. Thickens the mucin and aqueous layers of the tear film. Contact with epithelial cells, does not cause any specific effects.

Tolerance and safety were studied in rabbits after a single instillation and after application of 4 times a day for 4 weeks. In any study, there were no reactions related to the effects of the drug. Marked by good tolerability as well, with eye tissues and the organism as a whole.

There's no evidence of teratogenic and mutagenic properties.

Clinical pharmacology:

Has a pronounced adhesion to the membranes of epithelial cells and mucin layer in the tear film. Thickening of the tear film has a beneficial effect for conditions when you change the properties of mucin, such as colds, bacterial, fungal, and inflammatory eye lesions. The protective function of the thickened layer of the tears is especially apparent when injuries and erosions of the conjunctiva and cornea. Prolonged contact of the tear film with the cornea it has a beneficial effect by reducing the secretion of tears.

Often a symptom of the syndrome of "dry eye" is a compensatory watery eyes. The drug stabilizes the tear film and the tearing stops.

Indications:

Dry keratoconjunctivitis and other diseases accompanied by the syndrome of "dry eye".

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.

Application of pregnancy and breast-feeding:

Application of pregnancy and breastfeeding perhaps if a beneficial effect for the mother outweighs the risk to the fetus or child.

Side effects:

Immediately after instillation of the possible transient blurred vision, transient tingling sensation and local irritation to the eyes.

Drug interactions:

Prolong the absorption of other eye products. If assigned to more than one type of eye drops should be used with interval of at least 15 min, and Oftagel always bury the past.

Method of application and dose:

The conjunctival. 1 drop in the affected eye 1-4 times a day.

Overdose:

No effects related to overdose of the drug, was not observed.

Precautions:

During treatment you should not wear soft contact lenses. Before applying eye drops hard contact lenses should be removed and re-establish no earlier than 15 min.

Special instructions:

May cause a temporary reduction in visual acuity. Before driving a car or operate mechanical devices, you should wait until visual acuity is fully restored.

Between the drops, the vial should be stored inverted to facilitate receipt of the gel.

Expiration date:

Oopened flask - month.
