Antihypoxants & Antioxidants

Antihypoxic (Lipoxen, Actovegin, etc.) — drugs that improve the body utilization of oxygen and reduces the need for it (increasing the resistance to hypoxia) of organs and tissues. A definite role in the suppression of hypoxia belongs to antioxidants (vitamin E, butylhydroxytoluene, probucol, ascorbic acid, etc.). Activation of free radical processes and peroxidation accompanies many diseases: atherosclerosis and its thrombo-haemorrhagic complications (heart attack, stroke), diabetes mellitus, chronic nonspecific lung disease, reduced cellular and humoral immunity, etc., and antioxidants are obligatory components of complex therapy. Free radical processes are normalized recovery of free radicals in the stable molecular form (not able to participate in the chain auto-oxidation). Antioxidants either directly bind free radicals (direct antioxidants), or stimulate the body's antioxidant system (indirect antioxidants).
