I. General information

Trade name of the medicinal product: Marflex® tablets (Marfloxin® tablets).

Dosage form: tablets for oral administration.

Marfloxin® tablet release in the form of tablets weighing 70 mg, 280 mg, and 1120 mg. as the active substance in one tablet contains marbofloxacin 5 mg, 20 mg or 80 mg, respectively, and the excipients: lactose monohydrate, povidone, crospovidone, magnesium stearate meat flavour, gidrogenizirovannoe castor oil, yeast powder, silica Kolodny anhydrous.

Marfloxin® tablets in the dose of 5 mg and 20 mg are round biconvex tablets with a pale yellow-brown with possible dark and white specks with a line on one side. Marfloxin ® tablets with a dosage of 80 mg are biconvex capsule tablets of pale yellow-brown color with possible dark and white inclusions, with a risk on both sides. The tablet can be divided into halves.

Shelf life of the drug under storage conditions-3 years from the date of production.

Do not use the drug after the expiration date.

Marfloxin® tablet is pre-Packed in blisters of 6 tablets (dosage 80 mg/tabl.) or 10 tablets (for dosages of 5 mg / table. and 20 mg / table.) or 2 pieces (dosage 80 mg / table.) in cardboard boxes together with instructions for use

The drug should be stored in the manufacturer's packaging, separately from food and feed, in a place protected from direct sunlight, at a temperature of 0°C to 25°C.

Keep the drug should be in places inaccessible to children.

Unused product is disposed of in accordance with the requirements of the legislation.

II. Pharmacological properties

Marfloxin® tablets belongs to antibiotics of fluoroquinolone group.

The drug has a wide range of bactericidal action, based on the suppression of bacterial enzymes of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IY, involved in DNA replication of microorganisms.

Marbofloxacin – active substance Mefloquine® tablets are active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens, Morganella morganii, Proteus spp, Klebsiella spp, Shigella spp, Pasteurella spp, Haemophilus spp, Moraxella spp, Pseudomonas spp, Brucella canis, Staphylococci, Streptococci, and Mycoplasma spp..

After oral administration of the drug marbofloxacin is well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and penetrates into all organs and tissues of the body. Bioavailability of marbofloxacin after oral administration is about 100%. The maximum concentration in blood is achieved after 2.0 hours, the elimination half-life in dogs is 14 hours in cats 10 hours. Marbofloxacin is excreted from the body of animals mainly unchanged in the urine and bile. 

Marfloxin® tablets on extent of impact on the body belongs to low-hazard substances (4 hazard class according to GOST 12.1.007-76).

III. The order of application

Marfloxin® tablet is used to treat dogs and cats with diseases of the respiratory system, urogenital system, infections of skin, soft tissue, infected wounds and other diseases of bacterial and mycoplasmal aetiology, pathogens of which are sensitive to marbofloxacin.

Contraindications to the use of the drug Marfloxin® tablets is increased individual animal sensitivity to the preparation components. It is forbidden to use the drug in animals with significant violations of the development of cartilaginous tissue, with lesions of the nervous system, accompanied by convulsions, with the release of animal microorganisms resistant to fluoroquinolones.

When working with Maraxina® tablets must follow the General rules of personal hygiene and safety provided when dealing with drugs.

People with hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones should avoid direct contact with the drug. Empty packaging from under the drug should not be used for household purposes, it is subject to disposal with household waste.

In case of accidental contact of the drug on the skin or mucous membranes, it should be immediately washed off with running water and soap. In case of allergic reactions and / or accidental ingestion of the drug into the human body, you should immediately contact a medical institution (you should have the instructions for use of the drug or the label).

Do not use Marfloxin® tablets in pregnant and lactating females and kittens younger than 4 months, puppies under 12 months (puppies of large breeds – under 18 months).

The drug is used in animals once a day, individually in a fragmented form with food or administered forcibly to the root of the tongue in a daily dose of 2 mg of marbofloxacin per 1 kg of animal weight.

The duration of treatment for dogs is from 7 to 14 days, cats - from 3 to 10 days, depending on the course of the disease.

When using the drug in accordance with this instruction, side effects and complications are usually not observed. In rare cases, it is possible to increase defecation and softening of the chair, these symptoms disappear spontaneously and do not require discontinuation of the drug.

In the event of allergic reactions, the use of the drug is stopped and the animal is prescribed antihistamines and symptomatic drugs.

In case of overdose in animals may experience disorders of the nervous system. Treatment is symptomatic.

It is not recommended to use Marfloxin® tablets simultaneously with cationic drugs (iron, calcium, magnesium, aluminum) because of the possible reduction of absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, as well as with chloramphenicol, macrolide antibiotics and tetracycline.

Features of the drug in its first use and cancellation is not established.

You should avoid missing the next dose of the drug, as this can lead to a decrease in therapeutic efficacy. In the case of missing one dose of the drug is resumed in the same dosage and the same scheme.

Marfloxin® tablets are not intended for the treatment of productive animals.
