DESCRIPTION
Tiercal is an antibacterial drug in the form of a suspension for injection. In appearance, it is an oily liquid of light yellow color.
STRUCTURE
It contains 50 mg of ceftiofur hydrochloride and auxiliary components in 1 ml as the active substance.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Tiercal is an antibiotic of the cephalosporin group of the third generation, has a wide spectrum of antibacterial action, is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, including Streptococcus spp., Actinomyces pyogenes, Staphylococcus spp., Salmonella choleraesuis, Escherichia coli, Pasteurella haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Haemophilus somnus, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Haemophilus parasuis, Klebsiella spp., Citrobacter spp., Enterobacter spp., Bacillus spp., Proteus spp., Fusobacterium necrophorum and Bacteroides melaninogenicus, including strains, producing lactamase. The mechanism of action of ceftiofur, which is part of tiercal, is to suppress the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. After administration, ceftiofur is rapidly metabolized to form desfuroylceftiofur, which has an equivalent activity against bacteria to ceftiofur. The active metabolite reversibly binds to plasma proteins and is concentrated in the tissues affected by the pathogen. The maximum concentration of ceftiofur and its metabolites in the blood is reached after 0.5-2 hours and is maintained at the therapeutic level for up to 24 hours from the moment of administration of the drug, while the activity of the drug does not decrease in the presence of necrotic tissues. Ceftiofur and its metabolites are excreted from the animal's body mainly in the urine.
INDICATIONS
It is prescribed to cattle for the treatment of necrobacteriosis associated with Fusobacterium necrophorum and Bacteroides melaninogenicus, acute postpartum endometritis, bacterial infections of the respiratory tract caused by Pasteurella haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida and Haemophilus somnus. Pigs for the treatment of bacterial infections of the respiratory tract caused by Pasteurella haemolytica, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Streptococcus suis.
DOSAGE AND APPLICATION
Tiercal is administered to cattle subcutaneously at the rate of 1 ml of the drug per 50 kg of animal weight, which corresponds to 1 mg of ceftiofur per 1 kg of animal weight, for necrobacteriosis for 3 days, for endometritis for 5 days (in the first 10 days after calving), for respiratory tract diseases for 3 to 5 days. Pigs-intramuscularly at the rate of 1 ml of the drug per 16 kg of animal weight, which corresponds to 3 mg of ceftiofur per 1 kg of animal weight, for 3 days. Before each use, the bottle with tiercal is thoroughly shaken until a homogeneous suspension is obtained.
SIDE EFFECTS
With proper use and dosage, side effects are usually not observed.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Increased individual sensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics. In case of allergic reactions, stop the administration of the drug and prescribe antihistamines. Tiercal should not be mixed with other medicines in the same syringe.
FEATURES
Slaughter of cattle for meat is allowed after 8 days, and pigs-after 5 days after the last application of tiercal. In the case of forced slaughter of animals before the deadline, the meat is used for feeding carnivorous animals or for the production of meat and bone meal. Milk from cattle can be used for food purposes without restrictions.
