Pharmacological action

Pharmacological action-antibacterial, bactericidal broad spectrum.

Method of application and doses

In / in, infusion.

Adults and children over 12 years-1-2 g once a day or 0.5-1 g every 12 h, the total daily dose should not exceed 4 g. 

Dose for the newborn — 20-50 mg/kg/day.

For infants and children up to 12 years the maximum daily dose is 50-75 mg/kg in children weighing 50 kg and above use adult dose. A dose of 50 mg/kg should be administered in the form of in/infusion within 30 min. duration of the course depends on the nature and severity of the disease.

Lyme disease: adults and children — 50 mg/kg (but not more than 2 g) 1 time per day for 14 days.

Prevention of postoperative complications: once 1 g 30-60 min before surgery. During operations on the colon and rectum are recommending additional introduction of the drug from the group of 5-nitroimidazoles.

Bacterial meningitis: in children, the initial dose is 100 mg/kg (but not more than 4 g) 1 time per day, in the future — 100 mg / kg (but not more than 4 g) 1-2 times a day (every 12 hours), or may be reduced. The duration of treatment is 7-14 days.

Infections of skin and soft tissues in children recommended daily dose is 50-75 mg/kg 1 time per day or 25-37. 5 mg/kg every 12 h for severe infections of other localization — 25-37. 5 mg/kg every 12 hours the Maximum daily dose in children should not exceed 2 g.

Special groups of patients

Renal impairment. Patients with chronic renal failure dose adjustment is required only when Cl creatinine below 10 ml/min. In this case, the daily dose should not exceed 2 g. Patients, on hemodialysis, does not require the introduction of additional doses after hemodialysis, however, it is necessary to monitor the concentration of Ceftriaxone in plasma, since its excretion in these patients may slow down (may require dose adjustment).

In patients with renal-hepatic insufficiency, the daily dose should not exceed 2 g without determining the concentration of the drug in blood plasma.

Duration of treatment

Ceftriaxone treatment should continue for at least another 2 days after the symptoms and signs of infection have disappeared. The course of treatment is usually 4-14 days, with complicated infections may require longer treatment. The course of treatment for infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes should be at least 10 days.

Rules of preparation and introduction of solutions

Do not use calcium-containing solutions for dilution. Only freshly prepared solutions should be used.

For in/infusions dissolve 2 g in 40 ml of a solution containing no calcium ions (0.9% sodium chloride solution, 5-10% dextrose solution, 5% levulose).
