DESCRIPTION

Cephalen 500 is a broad-spectrum oral antibiotic. It belongs to the group of cephalosporins of the first generation, it is a derivative of 7-aminocephalosporanic acid. The medicinal product is an oblong tablet, covered with an orange-colored shell with a risk on one side and an engraving on the other side.

STRUCTURE

Active substance cephalexin-500 mg, as well as excipients: povidone K-90-12.0 mg, sodium starch glycolate-10.0 mg, magnesium stearate-3.2 mg, glycine-1.8 mg, hypromellose-4.35 mg, OPADRAY orange-16.02 mg, talc-0.064 mg, water up to 0.583 g.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Pharmacotherapeutic group: antibacterial drug.

Cephalexin, which is part of the drug, belongs to the group of antibiotics of the cephalosporin series of the 1st generation, has a wide spectrum of antibacterial action, acts bactericidal.

The mechanism of action is the inhibition of transpeptidase, an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of the mucopeptide of the bacterial cell wall.

It is active against Gram-positive microorganisms Staphylococcus spp. (not producing and producing penicillinase), StaphyJococcus epidermidis (penicillin-resistant strains), Streptococcus spp. (including Streptococcus pneumoniae and Streptococcus pyogenes), Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Clostridium spp., and, to a lesser extent, Gram-negative microorganisms Neisseria meningitidis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., E. coli, Moraxella catarrhalis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Treponema spp. It is resistant to staphylococcal penicillinase, but is destroyed by cephalosporinase of gram-negative microorganisms.

Pseudomonas spp., including: Pseudomonas aerugenosa, Proteus mirabilis (indole-positive strains), Mycobacterium tuberculosis, anaerobes did not demonstrate sufficient sensitivity to cephalexin in the course of studies.

After oral administration, cephalexin is rapidly and almost completely absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Cephalexin binds to a limited extent (10-20%) to plasma proteins. After oral administration of a dose of 15 mg / kg in tablets, the average maximum concentration in the blood (Cax= 15 mcg / ml) is usually reached within 1-2 hours, the time to reach the maximum concentration in the blood plasma (Tmax= 90 min). Bioavailability is approximately 100% of the received dose (area under the concentration-time curve [AUC].:. 6279 mcg min / ml). Cephalexin does not undergo biotransformation processes that are important for pharmacokinetics. The half-life of cephalexin is approximately 1.5 hours (tl / 2 = 90 min). The elimination of the microbiologically active form is almost completely carried out in the urine, by tubular excretion and glomerular filtration.

PURPOSE

It is used for the treatment of dogs with diseases of the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary system and skin, localized soft tissue infections, osteomyelitis caused by microorganisms sensitive to cephalexin.

DOSAGE AND APPLICATION

The drug is used individually for dogs at a dose of 15 mg of cephalexin per I kg of animal weight 2 times a day (in severe or acute conditions, the dose can be doubled to 30 mg/kg 2 times a day) Cephalen 500: small breed dogs (less than 1 S kg of live weight) - ½ tablet; medium breed dogs (16-34 kg of live weight)- for 1-1 tablet; for dogs of large breeds (35-50 kg of live weight) - for I tablet.

The drug should be taken for at least 5 days: 14 days in cases of urinary tract infections, 15 days in cases of superficial infectious dermatitis, 28 days in cases of deep infectious dermatitis.

Any increase in the dose or duration of treatment should be based on the patient's condition as determined by the veterinarian.

The drug can be given in the form of whole tablets or crushed and added to the feed, if necessary.
