Pharmacological action
Means of plant origin. The main thing is the hepatoprotective effect. Flavolignany, including silybin, dehydrosilybin, isosilybin, silymarin, and dehydrosilybin, silychristin, Taxifolin (2.8-3.8%) stabilize lysosomal and cell membranes, preventing release of cell enzymes. They interact with free radicals and inhibit the processes of lipid peroxidation. Due to its antioxidant action, it inhibits the penetration of various toxins into the liver cells (including chlorinated hydrocarbons, alpha-amanitin of the pale grebe, nitrozoamines). Silybin, silymarin and their derivatives stimulate specific RNA polymerase A, which activates the synthesis of proteins and phospholipids in hepatocytes, accelerates the processes of regeneration and detoxification in the liver.
Tocopherols, macro- (potassium, magnesium) and trace elements (copper, selenium) contained in fruits contribute to the normalization of metabolic processes. The fatty oil of fruits (20-34%) contains a large amount of unsaturated fatty acids (including linoleic - 50-62%), which have redox properties, contribute to the oxidation of cholesterol and, together with beta-sitosterol, prevent atherosclerosis. Mucus polysaccharides (5%) have an enveloping and gastroprotective effect. The nitrogen-containing compound betaine improves the process of digestion, bile formation in the liver. Milk Thistle fruits have a lactogenic effect.
