Pharmacological action
Distracting, analgesic. Ben-Gay-irritating to sensitive receptors in the skin, expanding capillaries. Causes a feeling of heat (menthol). Due to the warming effect Ben-Gay reduces tension, spasm, pain, increases blood flow and facilitates the removal of irritants (lactic acid), increases range of motion. The effects appear to be organs, joints, muscles, tendons, and some internal organs. Methyl salicylate, are absorbed through the skin can reduce pain.
Testimony
Pain in joints and muscles, including inflammation, stiffness of joints, pain in the lumbar-sacral region of the spine caused by stretching, intense sports activities and physical exercise (sports balm).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, open wound, skin irritation, children up to age 12 years (for sports balm and ointment), pregnancy
Method of application and doses
Local. Ben-Gay: a large amount of cream rubbed into painful areas of the skin. The cream is quickly absorbed through the skin. If necessary, repeat the procedure a few hours (3-4 times daily).
Special instructions
Ben-Gay is not advised to use warming compresses. The appearance of skin irritation should stop using. Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, areas of skin irritation. If the pain persists more than 10 days after using the ointment, you must seek medical attention. Lactoirute women at the time of treatment must stop breastfeeding.
