Baytril 10% is an antimicrobial drug for farm birds. In appearance, the drug is a clear solution of light yellow color.
STRUCTURE
The preparation in 1 ml contains as an active substance 100 mg of enrofloxacin and auxiliary components: potassium hydroxide, benzyl alcohol, water for injection.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Enrofloxacin, which is part of the drug, belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones, has a wide spectrum of antibacterial and antimycoplasmic effects, suppresses the growth and development of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia, Hemophilus, salmonella, pasteurella, staphylococci, streptococci, Clostridium, Pseudomonas, bordetella, Campylobacter, corynebacteria, proteus, and mycoplasma.
The mechanism of action of enrofloxacin is to inhibit the activity of the enzyme gyrase, which affects the replication of the DNA helix in the nucleus of a bacterial cell. When administered orally, enrofloxacin is well and quickly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and penetrates into all organs and tissues of the body. The maximum concentration of enrofloxacin in the blood is reached in 1.5-2 hours, the therapeutic concentration is maintained for 24 hours after administration of the drug; it is excreted from the body mainly in unchanged form, partially metabolized to ciprofloxacin and excreted in the urine and feces.
Baytril 10% solution for oral administration according to the degree of exposure to the body belong to moderately dangerous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), in recommended doses it is well tolerated by animals, does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic and hepatotoxic effects.
INDICATIONS
The drug is used for chickens and turkeys for therapeutic purposes in colibacteriosis, salmonellosis, streptococcosis, necrotic enteritis, hemophilosis, mycoplasmosis, mixed infections, secondary infections in viral diseases and other diseases whose pathogens are sensitive to enrofloxacin.
APPLICATION
The solution for oral administration is prescribed at a dose of 10 mg of enrofloxacin per 1 kg of poultry weight per day with drinking water.
Treatment is carried out within 3 days; and for salmonellosis– within 5 days. During the treatment period, the bird should only receive water containing Baytril. If there is no noticeable clinical improvement within 2-3 days, it is recommended to re-check the sensitivity of microorganisms isolated from the sick bird to fluoroquinolones or replace Baytril with another antibacterial drug.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
Slaughter of poultry for meat is allowed no earlier than 11 days after the last use of the drug. The meat of poultry that is forcibly killed before the expiration of the specified period can be used for feeding fur-bearing animals or for the production of meat and bone meal.
SIDE EFFECTS
When using Baytril 10% solution for oral administration in accordance with this instruction, side effects and complications are usually not observed.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Concomitant use of Baytril with levomycetin, macrolides, tetracyclines, theophylline and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is not allowed. It is forbidden to use Baytril 10% solution for oral administration to laying hens, due to the release of enrofloxacin with eggs.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
When working with Baytril 10% solution for oral use, the general rules of personal hygiene and safety provided for when working with medicinal products for animals should be observed.
STORAGE
Store with caution, in a dry, dark place, out of the reach of children and animals at a temperature of +5°C to +25°C. Shelf life under storage conditions is 3 years from the date of production. After opening the bottle, the drug can be used for 28 days. Baytril 10% solution for oral administration after the expiration date should not be used.
PACKAGING
The drug is produced packaged in 1L bottles made of polyethylene with a screw-on lid, which are placed in cardboard boxes.
