STRUCTURE
Ceftiosan Forte in 1 ml contains 200 mg of ceftiofuric acid as an active ingredient, as well as excipients: cottonseed oil and medium u-chain triglycerides.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Ceftiosan Forte belongs to the antibacterial agents of the group of cephalosporins of the third generation.
The active substance of the drug is ceftiofur hydrochloride — cephalosporin antibiotic of the third generation, which has a wide spectrum of bactericidal action against Gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, including strains that produce beta-lactamase and some anaerobic bacteria, namely: Streptococcus spp., Actynomyces pyogenes, Staphylococcus spp., Salmonella choleraesuis, Escherichia coli, Pasteurella haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Haemophilus spp., Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Klebsiella spp., Citrobacter spp., Enterobacter spp., Bacillus spp., Proteus spp., Fusobacterium necrophorum, and Bacteroides melaninogenicus.
The mechanism of action of ceftiofur hydrochloride is to inhibit the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. After parenteral administration, ceftiofur hydrochloride is rapidly metabolized to form desfuroylceftiofur, which has an equivalent activity against bacteria to ceftiofur hydrochloride. The active metabolite reversibly binds to plasma proteins and is concentrated in the pathogen-affected tissues. After intramuscular administration of Ceftiosan to pigs, the maximum concentration of ceftiofur hydrochloride and its metabolites in the blood serum is reached after 0.5-2 hours and is maintained at the therapeutic level for up to 24 hours from the moment of administration of the drug. Bioavailability with intramuscular administration is close to 100 %. After subcutaneous administration of Ceftiosan to cattle, the maximum concentration of the antibiotic in the plasma is recorded after 2 hours, in the endometrium after 4-6 hours. The drug and its metabolites are excreted from the body of animals mainly in the urine (over 70 %) and feces (about 30%).
Ceftiosan Forte, according to the degree of exposure to the body of warm-blooded animals, is a low-risk substance.
PURPOSE
Ceftiosan Forte is prescribed for therapeutic purposes to cattle and pigs for infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, genitourinary system, joints, soft tissues and skin, necrobacteriosis, postpartum metritis and infections of bacterial etiology, the pathogens of which are sensitive to ceftiofur.
DOSAGE AND APPLICATION
Ceftiosan Forte is administered: to cattle - once subcutaneously in the base of the ear at a dose of 1 ml per 30 kg of animal weight (equivalent to 6.6 mg of ceftiofur per 1 kg of animal weight); to pigs once intramuscularly 1 ml per 40 kg of animal weight (equivalent to 5 mg of ceftiofur per 1 kg of animal weight) The maximum volume for the administration of the drug at one injection site should not exceed 30 ml.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
Slaughter for cattle meat is allowed no earlier than 8 days, pigs — no earlier than 6 days after the last administration of Ceftiosan. The meat of animals that were forcibly killed before the expiration of these terms can be used as food for fur-bearing animals.
Milk of dairy cows during the use of the drug is used for food purposes without restrictions. During the manipulation of the drug, it is not allowed to smoke, drink or eat.
At the end of the work, wash your hands with warm water and soap. In case of accidental contact of the drug on the skin or mucous membranes of the eyes, they must be washed with a large amount of running water. People suffering from allergies should avoid direct contact with the drug. In case of allergic reactions or accidental ingestion of the drug in the human body, you should immediately contact a medical institution, having with you the instructions for the use of the drug or the label.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Increased individual sensitivity of the animal to beta-lactam antibiotics. It should not be prescribed together with tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, macrolides and lincosamides, as well as mixed in one syringe with other drugs.
SIDE EFFECTS
When using the drug Ceftiosan Forte in accordance with this instruction, side effects and complications in animals, as a rule, are not observed. In some animals, a local reaction may occur at the injection site in the form of edema, which resolves spontaneously within 1-2 days. In case of allergic reactions, the use of the drug is discontinued and antihistamines and symptomatic therapy are prescribed to the animal.
