Pharmacological action
Ornidazole is active against Trichomonas, Giardia, Entamoeba histolytica, certain anaerobic bacteria (Bacteroides spp., Fusobacter spp. Clostridium spp. and anaerobic cocci).
Testimony
Trichomoniasis, amoebiasis, amoebic dysentery, extraintestinal amoebiasis (
including amebic liver abscess), giardiasis, prevention of postoperative infectious complications caused by anaerobic bacteria, during surgical intervention on the colon, and gynecologic operations.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, pregnancy (I trimester), lactation, organic diseases of the Central nervous system.
Method of application and doses
Inside, after eating. Trichomoniasis: adults — 0, 5 g 2 times a day for 5 days. Children in a single dose rate of 25 mg/kg of body weight per day. In amoebic dysentery adults and children weighing more than 35 kg — 1 5 g 1 time/day, body weight over 60 kg — 2 g/day. Children weighing less than 35 kg — 40 mg/kg/day. The duration of treatment is 3 days. For the treatment of other forms of amebiasis: adults and children weighing more than 35 kg — 0, 5 g orally 2 times a day, with weight up to 35 kg — 25 mg/kg once daily for 5-10 days. Giardiasis: adults and children weighing over 35 kg — inside, 1, 5 g, 1 times a day, children with body weight up to 35 kg — 40 mg/kg/day. The duration of treatment is 1-2 days. Prevention of postoperative infectious complications caused by anaerobic bacteria — 0 5 g before surgery, then every 12 hours at 0, 5 g for 3-5 days.
Side effects
Headache, dizziness, impaired consciousness, tremor, rigidity, discoordination movements, cramps, sensory or mixed peripheral neuropathy, dyspepsia.
Special instructions
In the treatment of trichomoniasis should conduct a simultaneous treatment of both partners.
Drug interactions
Enhances the effect of anticoagulants cumarin series, prolongs the muscle relaxant effect of vecuronium bromide. Unlike other imidazolone derivatives (metronidazole), is compatible with alcohol (not inhibits acetyldihydrocodeinone).
Overdose
Symptoms: epileptiformnye convulsions, depression, peripheral neuritis.
Treatment: symptomatic.
