The composition and form of issue:
Eye drops, 1 ml contains:
dexamethasone 1 mg
excipients: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is 0.5% distilled water
preservative: benzalkonium chloride 0,01%
in vials-droppers (with a dosing device "Drop Tainer™"), 5 ml.
Eye ointment, 1 g contains:
dexamethasone 1 mg
excipients: white petrolatum, lanolin anhydrous, liquid
preservatives: methyl paraben and 0.05%, propylparaben and 0.01%
in tubes of 3.5 g in a box 1 tuba.
Description pharmacological action:
Dexamethasone corticosteroids, has no mineralocorticoid activity. Has a pronounced anti-inflammatory, antiallergic and desensitizing effect. Dexamethasone actively suppresses inflammation, inhibiting the release of eosinophils mediators of inflammation, migration of fat cells and reducing capillary permeability.
Indications:
- allergic blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis
- acute and chronic iritis, iridocyclitis
- prevention and treatment of inflammation in the postoperative period
- thermal and chemical burns (after the complete epithelization of the defect of the cornea).
Contraindications:
- hypersensitivity to any component of the drug
- keratitis caused by herpes simplex (tree-like keratitis)
- varicella and other viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva
- mycobacterial infections of the eye
- fungal diseases of the eye
- acute purulent eye diseases.
At the moment, the safety and efficacy of the drug for children has not been established.
Application of pregnancy and breast-feeding:
During pregnancy, the drug should be administered only in cases when the effectiveness of the treatment justify the potential risk to the fetus. For the period of lactation should stop the drug treatment.
Application in Pediatrics. At the moment, the safety and efficacy of the drug in children have not been established.
Side effects:
Long-term use of steroid drugs may occur: elevation of IOP with possible subsequent development of glaucoma, resulting in the develop characteristic lesions on the optic nerve and visual field changes (so when using drugs containing corticosteroids, more than 10 days should regularly measure IOP) formation of back subcapsular cataract slower healing process (for diseases causing thinning of cornea or sclera possible perforation of the sclera with local application of steroid drugs).
Secondary infection
After application of preparations containing corticosteroids in combination with antibiotics, you may experience the development of secondary infection. Secondary bacterial infection may occur as a consequence of the suppression of defence reactions of the body of the patient. In acute purulent eye diseases, corticosteroids may mask or enhance existing infection.
Fungal infection of the cornea tends to occur particularly frequently with prolonged use of steroids. Appearance on corneal nonhealing ulcers after long-term treatment with steroid medications may indicate the development of a fungal infestation.
Method of application and dose:
Into the conjunctival SAC.
Eye drops: 1-2 drops of the solution instilled every 3-6 hours or as directed by your doctor. Before use, the vial with drops should be shaken.
Eye ointment: a strip of ointment the length of 1-1,5 cm lay behind the lower eyelid 2-3 times a day.
You can combine the application of ointments and eye drops: ointment in the evening before bed, and eye drops during the day.
Special instructions:
The drug should not be used for injection.
Information for patients
When using drops, do not touch tip of dropper to any surface to avoid getting bacteria inside of the bottle.
Do not wear contact lenses during treatment.
Before use you should shake the bottle.
