Pharmacological action.

Cefazolin sodium salt is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic. Has a bactericidal effect. Active against gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus spp. (strains producing and not producing penicillinase), Streptococcus spp. (including Streptococcus spp.), Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Bacillus anthracis; gram-negative bacteria: Neisseria meningitidis, Neisseria gonorrhoae, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp.. Active also in relation to Spirochaetaceae, Leptospira spp.. Inactive for Pseudomonas aeruginosa, indole-positive Proteus spp strains., Mycobacterium tuberculosis, anaerobic bacteria.

Reacts with specific penicillin binding proteins on the surface of the cytoplasmic membrane, inhibits the synthesis of peptidoglycan layer of the cell wall (inhibits transpeptidase, inhibits the formation of cross-links chains peptidoglycan), releases autolytic enzymes of the cell wall, causing damage and destruction of bacteria.
