Pharmacological action:

Levomecol is a combined drug that contains the antibiotic chloramphenicol and the immunostimulating agent methyluracil.

The effectiveness of chloramphenicol is shown against most bacteria, rickettsias, spirochetes and chlamydia. Bacteriostatic action is caused by inhibition of protein biosynthesis in the cell of the microorganism. Gram-positive aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, including Clostridium perfringens and Streptococcus spp, are susceptible to the drug., Staphylococcus spp., gram-negative anaerobic and aerobic bacteria. The development of microbial resistance to the drug is relatively slow. The presence of pus does not reduce the antimicrobial action of the antibiotic.

Methyluracil participates in the exchange of nucleic acids, has a positive effect on the process of tissue regeneration in wounds, and acts as an anti-inflammatory agent. The dehydrating properties of the ointment are given by polyethylene oxides, which are its basis.

Indications for use:

• Purulent wound,
• trophic ulcer,
• purulent-inflammatory skin diseases,
• boils,
• 2-3 degree burns

Method of application:

Outwardly. The ointment is applied to sterile napkins that loosely fill the wound. The daily change of napkins before cleaning the wound is shown. It is allowed to introduce the ointment into purulent cavities using a syringe after preheating to a temperature of 35-36 degrees Celsius.

Side effect:

Allergic reaction.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity.

Pregnancy:

It should be borne in mind that with prolonged use and extensive wound surfaces, there is a possibility of absorption and resorptive action.

Overdose:

Overdose is unlikely.

Form release:

Ointment (tubes containing 25, 0g, 30, 0g or 40, 0g of the drug).

Storage conditions:

Not regulated.

Composition:

1, 0g of ointment contains:

• chloramphenicol 0, 0075g,
• methyluracil 0, 04g.

The base is polyethylene oxide 1500 and polyethylene oxide 400.
